| This was a one time opportunity to spend the day with Roy Underhill and learn from one of the best known woodworkers in America. Beneath all that wit and humor is an extremely talented woodwork whose roots in the trade are tied to colonial Williamsburg where he served as the Master Housewright. The seminar was in Room 112 at the Pleasant Hill Adult Center, on Friday June 26th at 7:00 - 9:00 pm and on June 27th at 8:30 am - 4:30 pm. Both days were filled with lots of demonstrations, humor and a whale of a lot of learning! We used a video camera and a big screen TV so you could see every detail of Roy's work. | Roy Underhill is now in his 30th year of bringing subversive woodworking to public television with his series "The Woodwright Shop". His programs and books, dedicated to hand tool woodworking "beyond the Norm", have reached millions around the globe. A native of Washington, DC (the mountainous part) he was for many years the master housewright at Colonial Williamsburg. He still lives in Williamsburg with his wife Jane, but hopes to soon move to an old mill in North Carolina -- or any place where he can't hear the fife and drum music any more. |
